LO2: Task 3 - Analysing a radio show

RADIO SHOW:
Sheffield Underground Sounds is intended to be broadcast on Sheffield Live! being hammocked in between 'Talking Balls' and 'Da beat down' on Friday evening. This makes this a good slot for this show as its targeting people who are getting ready to go out on a Friday night, as these are generally people who listen to music.

TARGT AUDIENCE:
The target audience of this show would be preferably between the ages of 16 - 25 both males and females however I think the target audience would be 60% women and 40% men because of the stereotypes of the fact more women listen to male dominated bands than men do. The typical radio listener that will listen to the radio show will preferably be college/university student, who are incredibly music conscious and enjoy winding down to listen to their music. Their music would also belong to the indie genre who are constantly looking for new bands and music. This could be for inspirations or for a hobby. The ideal target audience would also be people that listen to much larger Sheffield formed bands like Pulp and Arctic Monkeys.

CONTENT PLAN:
The content of the show is going to be both talk and music as it is a music talk show. This will include music from local Sheffield bands, interviews, reviews and live sounds from local events (This will help to keep all our ideas unique). However if we was to record in a public area live at an event we would need to get a PPL License. This leads me on to the PRS License, which may not be needed because our aim is to promote unsigned bands. The advertisements will all be clearly local Sheffield based as it is quite important to aim at the local target audience. This will include businesses such as Cow, Design Studio and the famous Sheffield shop. The music that will be broadcast on the show will be all from local bands,

RUNNING ORDER
The running order of the show will be

SCRIPT

This is an example of the script that we will use for our radio show. As you can tell the script is quite informal and laid back as they mention issues that are actually a big worry with a lot of the listeners. The script also shows that the listeners can call/text/email/tweet in any problems in their local area for the presenters can make a discussion about the topic, which could work out well improvised to a certain standard, so the presenters would use the script as a brief outline because we want their Yorkshire dialect to be quite strong as it would make the listener feel more comfortable listening to the show.

LO1: Task 2 - City Talk

Running Order -

So the first thing shown in the show is the jingles, this lasts about 20 seconds this is to introduce the show and they use that every time the show is broadcast therefore giving the feeling of familiarity to the viewers. The show also uses jingles in between segments, this helps the listeners become more familiar with the sections of the show, so they understand in more depth what the show is about as they have visuals. Within the show they also use the jingle 'City Talk 105.9' this keeps it in the listeners head so that they think of that radio station when they come to listening to the radio again.

DJ/Presenters -

The presenters use a conversational style of talk between each other in an informal style, this helps the audience feel more comfortable listening to the show. This is mainly because of the fact that the show is aimed at males and talks a lot about sport, and news which is generally what they talk about to friends so helps them relate. The presenters talk in a chatty style this also connotes the fact they want the listeners to feel like they are talking to their friends.

Content -

The show uses songs like stevie Wonder - Superstitious, this connotes the idea of them aiming at an older audience of people as the show seems to play old songs that would specifically target an older audience. The show also has a nes section where they talk about all the local news in the area, as this is a local radio show on a local radio station. The show also talks about business as well as sport. So this gives it s quite broad area of topics.

Audience -

The audience for City talk would be really male dominated, this is shown by both of the presenters being males as well as it talking about male stereotyped topics i.e. sport. This would be specifically be 61.7% male and 38.3% women tuning into the station. According to RAJAR the target demographic age for this show is between the ages of 25 - 45, and would be 43.5% of ABC1 Profile. This shows that people with money to spend on sports or running a business will actually tune into the show, and be interested in the show. The fact the target age for the show is 25 - 45 is shown by the chosen topics as well as the chosen music as its chosen from a certain time frame,

LO1: Task 1 - Investigating a Radio Station

Sheffield Live!

Sheffield Live is an independent community radio station by the community media association. They run many community radio shows on the radio station with shows such as Community Live which is run by numerous volunteers in the local community who discuss various community issues. They also host a show called local talent show which features many different upcoming bands from around Sheffield. One more show they host on the radio station is a radio show called Spirit of the Wapentake.

Sheffield Live uses different sorts of genres for shows. For example Communities Live uses different aspects of the community. The music they play varies from chart, indie, Latin, pop, rhythm and blues, African, jungle, reggae, ska and rock etc. 'soul Casino' is one example of northern and classical soul, where as they also broadcast shows like 'da beat down' which broadcasts mainly R&B music showing that Sheffield Live! aim to reach the highest amount of audience in the local area. Talking about the local are this gives me another example of this would be 'top local talent'

Sheffield Live target for people living in the local area. The target a broad audience throughout the Sheffield Region, as they run many different shows. For example Communities Live which is a debate show on local community issues in the area, The local talent show which will be aimed at people who have a high interest in music especially the local bands and one more show they broadcast is Soul purpose which is a show which broadcast soul, jazz and funk music. This all connote the fact due to the timings of the shows the audience reach is completely different.

In Sheffield Live different parts of the Production team work together to produce and promote products. Sheffield Live basically provides people the production equipment in the community to create their own show for what they think will target the local community. It also pays for the PRS license for the shows who play commercial music.

The main competitor for Sheffield Live is radio station Hallam FM. Hallam FM is basically a commercial radio station therefore has much money to spend on it's shows. Hallam FM targets a wider demographic than Sheffield Live! This is mainly because their audience reach is 11% which means around 32,000 adults tune into the station every week.
